Privacy Policy

Nija is a local-first private vault for encrypted passwords, notes, documents, identities, and custom records. This policy explains how the web app handles your data.

Local-first storage

Nija is designed to keep vault contents on your device unless you choose to export, share, import, or back up a vault. Browser storage is used for encrypted vault data and non-secret preferences.

Encrypted vault data

Vault contents are encrypted before storage. Master passwords, recovery phrases, PINs, and decrypted vault contents should not be stored in plain text or sent to Nija servers.

Cloud backup

If you enable cloud backup on supported platforms, Nija uploads encrypted vault backup files to the cloud account you select. Nija does not upload decrypted vault contents.

Device permissions

File picker, sharing, biometrics, passkeys/device unlock, and document open actions are used only when you choose those workflows. Permission availability depends on your browser, operating system, and device.

Data you choose to move

Exported vault files, encrypted secret files, backup files, and shared files are controlled by you. Keep those files and their passwords private and avoid sharing them with untrusted people.

No account database

The web app does not require a Nija account to create or unlock a local vault. If a third-party account is used for backup, that provider's terms and privacy policy also apply.
